Welcome to the HREF Lang experiment page.

HREF Lang is an HTML meta element is designed to help search engines understand how multiple content are equivalent to the same page on an international scale. This can be across folder, subdomain or even at a domain level. By implementing this tag, this allows to have dedicated content for a given region without being penalised for duplicate content – for example have the same page for UK and US would otherwise become troublesome as it would be deeemed as duplicate content, whilst there may be subtle variations to accommodate for the local audience.

The purpose of this test website is to understand the benefits of HREF Lang through the use of Google Tag Manager. The idea is to see what techniques can be implemented that can be seen and understood by Google’s crawling spiders. Previously, it has been deemed that HREF Lang tags added through JavaScript and even Google Tag Manager, were not processed by Google. There has been evidence to suggest this has changed, and this site will be used to prove this theory.
